AN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION MOVING WOMEN HAS OPENED IN KAZAN

19 April 2024

On the 19th of February, the collective exhibition Moving Women opened at the Center of Contemporary Culture Smena in Kazan. The exposition, organized with the support of the Swedish Embassy, brought together the works of artists from Sweden, Russia, Spain and England.

Films, videos and other works of the exhibitors examine and reveal the most diverse aspects of women's lives and experiences: family relationships, self-organization, emancipation, work, the struggle for equality. The word “moving” in the title of the project refers to the "moving image" - video format, and also characterizes the artists themselves - inquisitive authors who are constantly looking for new ways to work, live and spend time together. On the other hand, it also has to do with how the works affect us, the viewers. The works of artists set our feelings in motion.

Artists from Sweden, Russia, Spain, England and other countries took part in the project. The exhibition was curated by Maria Lind, a writer and educator from Stockholm, cultural adviser to the Swedish Embassy in Moscow and winner of the Walter Hopps Prize for curatorial achievements.

As part of the Moving Women exhibition, there will also be talks with artists, workshops for women, and walks around the city dedicated to the history of women in Kazan.
