The route itself was developed in 1967 with the inclusion of 8 cities: Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir. Each of these cities has its unique history and in ancient times played an important role in the history of the whole country.
The Golden Ring route unites ancient cities located to the north-east of Moscow, where unique historical and cultural monuments have been preserved. Many traditional folk crafts are still maintained and practised here. Some of these towns have been known since the 10th century and still preserve monuments of their long history. While visiting the many museums, cathedrals and craft workshops, or simply strolling through the ancient streets of these towns, you can take in their beauty and grandeur and enjoy their rich architectural and cultural heritage.
