18 April 2024

One of the largest and most fascinating museums - the Hermitage State Museum - resumes guided tours. The Hermitage as a second largest art museum in the world is a true gem of Saint-Petersburg and the whole Russia. Apart from the richest collection of paintings, Ancient Greek, Egyptian and Mesopotamian collections, wide range of prehistoric artifacts and many more being on display in the museum, the main building itself, named Winter Palace, is an important cultural and historic object. It used to be a residence of Russian tzars, and the beauty of the interiors is truly breathtaking.

During the quarantine period, the Hermitage prepared and presented 153 virtual tours in less than four months: not only guides were giving the tours but also curators, scientists and restorers. There were 258 broadcasts on Instagram, the total number of views of the Hermitage-Online project was 46.5 million. This is ten times more than the annual attendance of the museum. And now the museum finally opens its doors for tourist groups. At the moment the maximum number of people in the group is limited to 5 persons but the number may be increased according to the epidemiological situation.
