200TH ANNIVERSARY OF FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY

In 2021, Russia celebrates the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky, one of the most famous novelists in the world. Many museums in Moscow and St. Petersburg have prepared special cultural projects for this memorable date. On 15 November the inauguration of the Dostoevsky House Museum in Moscow took place as part of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature. The exhibition is located in the memorial apartment where the writer spent his youth and tells about Dostoevsky's childhood in Moscow, his family environment, literary and theatrical impressions of this period.

On 13November the Mikhailovsky Castle in St. Petersburg opened the exhibition Two Centuries of Dostoevsky - I am Dostoevsky. The exhibition presents personal belongings of the famous writer and paintings from an imaginary ideal museum made-up by Dostoevsky and directly related with his artistic world and the heroes of his books.

On 12November the Moscow State Tretyakov Gallery presented a focal exhibition dedicated to Fyodor Dostoevsky. The exhibition includes paintings and materials from the manuscript department. Visitors will also see a video that tells about Dostoevsky, his relationship with Pavel Tretyakov, the museum's founder, as well as about the writer's role in the artistic life of Russia in the second half of the 19th century.

And of course, Dostoevsky Museum in St. Petersburg awaits visitors. The memorial museum-apartment is of special importance as it is located in the very heart of the city, the historical district that inspired the writer and was reflected in his world famous works such as Crime and Punishment, White Nights and many others.
