Until the 31st of May the main building of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts presents an exhibition dedicated to the Mummies of Ancient Egypt, the Art of Immortality. The exposition includes more than 400 exhibits, most of which visitors will see for the first time.
The exhibition presents mummies of people and animals, sarcophagi, masks and portraits, fragments of tomb reliefs and other monuments of artistic craft that are associated with the funerary cult. The project talks about the beliefs of the ancient inhabitants of the Nile Valley.
The exhibition consists of three sections. The first is dedicated to the mummification process and is called Death and Magical Transformation. The second, entitled The Tomb - The House of Eternity, talks about the mourning and burial ritual of the ancient Egyptians. The final section - Return of the Mummy: View from the 21st Century, is a multimedia area that includes 3D reconstructions and digital materials.
A special program of excursions and searches has been developed for children from 6 to 14 years old. Young visitors will learn how the ancient Egyptians imagined eternal life, how the Egyptian tomb was laid out, why the mummy is called so and what the mummification process was, as well as hear about Egyptian myths and fairy tales of the ancient Egypt.
The Pushkin Museum has also prepared an educational program - experts will talk about the temples of ancient Egypt, the chronicles of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, research on tomb inscriptions, lifestyle and even pets of ancient Egyptians.
