BASHKIRIA REPUBLIC DAY

19 April 2024

On October 11th, Bashkiria celebrated a double holiday on a large scale - the 30th anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty and the 446th anniversary of the foundation of the Ufa fortress. City Day was supposed to pass back in June but because of the lockdown it was decided to postpone it and combine it with the celebration of the Republic Day.

The Republic of Bashkortostan, also called Bashkiria, is a federal subject of Russia. It is located between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains. Bashkortostan is the most populous republic in Russia, its capital is the city of Ufa. The city is considered to have been founded in 1574, when a fortress was built on the site of the city by order of Ivan the Terrible. The name "Ufa", according to one of the versions, could come from the ancient Turkic word "uba" - "hill, mountainous area". The main symbol of Ufa, and of the entire Republic of Bashkortostan, is a monument to Salavat Yulaev, a national Bashkir hero praised in Soviet times. It was installed in 1967 at the highest point above the Belaya River - on Cherkalikhina Mountain. It is especially beautiful here at sunset. Also, the city is interesting for its historical center with many mosques, churches and historic wooden buildings.

Apart from the capital, Bashkiria is widely known to all residents of Russia for the beauty of its nature. In the summer, it unfolds in its entirety. People from all over the country come to admire the local landscapes. Beautiful rivers and lakes, waterfalls and mountain ranges, dense forests and endless steppes - all in one republic. There are also places for lovers of cultural recreation and even for pilgrims. Bashkiria has unique natural monuments, such as the Aigir rocks, the famous Askinskaya ice cave, the nature reserve of Shulgan Tash, Kapova cave, which stores rock paintings of Paleolithic inhabitants.

MIR Travel Company is enchanted with the beauty of Bashkiria and will be happy to provide you with any information regarding the tours to this picturesque part of Russia. Please, contact our managers for further details.
