As part of the exhibition “The Wonderful Source: Summer in the General Headquarters”, visitors will be offered a collection of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artworks from the holdings of Shchukin and Morozov collections.

The space of the General Headquarters will be transformed into a lively recreation of Parisian streets at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, thanks to music, movement, light, sound, and fragrances.

This is not an exhibition in the traditional sense, but it is also not a performance. It is a literal immersion into famous paintings, with the opportunity to experience their sounds and scents.

Guests will embark on an intriguing journey through masterpieces from the collections of Sergey Shchukin and the Morozov brothers. The route will pass through works by Monet, Degas, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky, and Malevich. During the tour, you may encounter musicians and dancers. Expect music, performances, installations, and a skillful play with sounds and aromas.

Scenes from the paintings will come to life, and moments from the artists’ creative worlds will unfold in the museum halls. The evening will be enhanced by live music involving piano, violin, flute, accordion, duduk, and other instruments. Visitors will have the chance to try playing musical instruments or pose for a portrait. The evening will culminate with a concert in the Atrium of the Hermitage General Headquarters.

The sessions will take place on July 24, 31, and August 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2026. The start time is at 8:30 PM, with a duration of 2.5 hours.
