MURMANSK - THE WINTER CAPITAL OF RUSSIA

Murmansk is the world's largest city located above the Arctic Circle and one of the largest ports in Russia. Thanks to the warm current, Murmansk is a frost-free port.

Located on the hills, the city seems to descend from the peaks to the sea. In summer there is a polar day, and in winter there is a polar night and you can often see the northern lights. The world's first nuclear-powered icebreaker Lenin is moored in the port of Murmansk, where a museum is now open. Everyone can learn about the history of the icebreaker from the moment of its launching. The symbol of the city is the monument Alyosha, dedicated to the defenders of the Polar region. The monument is more than 40 metres high and is situated on the top of a hill and can be seen almost from any point of the city. Next to the monument there is a memorial lighthouse and the Church of the Saviour on Waters.
