KAZAN - A MULTICULTURAL CITY

03 June 2026

Kazan is a unique multicultural city. The golden-domed Orthodox cathedrals and minarets of mosques are harmoniously combined here. In addition, it is a modern and dynamic city and an important port on the banks of the Volga River. The city is famous for its rich history and focus on preserving traditions. Kazan is often referred to as the third capital of Russia. The main sights of Kazan are rightly considered to be the Kazan Kremlin, the Al-Marjani Mosque, the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Annunciation Cathedral, the quarters of the Old Tatar Sloboda, the always lively Bauman Street, etc.

The Kazan Kremlin is the oldest part of Kazan, where absolutely different cultures have been living side by side for many years. Founded in the 12th century, the Kremlin in Kazan is a unique example of the synthesis of Tatar and Russian architectural styles. In addition, it is also the northernmost point of spread of Islamic culture in the world. The Kazan Kremlin is home to one of the largest mosques in Russia - Qul Sharif, the Annunciation Cathedral, the Syuyumbike Tower and the Residence of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. In 2000 the Kazan Kremlin was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Old Tatar Sloboda is one of the historical districts of Kazan, which has preserved the atmosphere of the past years, where originality and oriental flavor perfectly coexist. The Sloboda was established in the middle of the 16th century along the shores of Lake Kaban. It is truly an open air architectural museum. Mosques, old Tatar houses, colorful wooden buildings call for a walk with the opportunity to make a lot of beautiful photos. MIR Travel Company will be happy to help you organize your visit to Kazan!
