SALVADOR DALI AT THE FABERGÉ MUSEUM IN ST. PETERSBURG

An exhibition dedicated to the art of Salvador Dali opened at the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg on 13 October. It features the artist's works depicting his Russian wife. Most of them have never been brought to Russia before. The main woman of Dali's life is presented in several characters - Leda and Elena the Beautiful, Gradiva and Galarina. All of them refer to well-known characters of ancient and European culture and at the same time reflect the metamorphoses that took place in the work of Dali himself. Interestingly, most of the works that appear at the exhibition have never been to Russia - some of them have not left Spain for the past 15 years. Most of the exhibits were part of Dali's personal collection.This is the third Dali exhibition in Russia in recent years. The first took place at the Fabergé Museum in 2017, the second - at the Moscow Manège in early 2020. It broke all attendance records, got into in the Russian Book of Records and, if not for the pandemic, due to which it had to be closed a month earlier, it would certainly have entered the Guinness Book of Records.
The current exposition in St. Petersburg will differ from the one that was in Moscow. In it, the organizers placed greater emphasis on the participation of Dali’s wife, Gala, in the artist's life. Part of the exhibition includes her portraits. The exhibition is divided into ten sections and presents 23 paintings, 32 graphic works and 9 drawings. The exhibition will run until 16 January, 2022.
