PREMIERE AT THE BOLSHOI THEATER

13 May 2021

The Bolshoi Theater hosted the premiere of the one-act operas The Diary of Anne Frank and The White Rose, dedicated to the World War II. One-act productions were prepared for the 75th victory anniversary in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the premieres had to be postponed. One of the operas is based on the diary of Anne Frank, one of the most impressive documents of the Second World War.

The production White Rose by the modern German composer Udo Zimmermann tells about the events during the war years. The heroes are brother and sister Hans and Sophie Scholl, who were members of an anti-fascist underground organization created by students of the University of Munich in 1942. The opera covers the last few hours of their lives. The premiere of the play took place in 1967 in Dresden. Opera will be presented at the Bolshoi Theater for the first time.
