DAY 1
Arrival followed by short-time loop tour across Kiev, which is not only the capital of Ukraine but also the mother city for all Eastern Slavic peoples. Kievan Rus’ the state from which Ukraine, Russia and Belarus are all descended was established here between 9th and 11th centuries. The modern centre and remains of the Old city are located on the hilly western bank of the Dnieper River, the third largest river in Europe.
Check-in at the hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 2
Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day tour around Chernobyl’s alienation zone.
Morning 2.5 hour drive from Kiev to Chernobyl, passing control check point “Dytiatky” on the border of 30-kilometre zone (the exclusion zone and the zone of compulsory settlement are located in another place). Your excursion includes a tour across a 10-kilometer zone. The visitors will be given the opportunity to look at the object “Sarcophagus” from the observation platform and visit “a dead town” Pripyat. Vegetation nearby “Sarcophagus” remained intact after the disaster (so-called reddish-brown forest). A tour takes you round to Opachychi and Kupovate villages. The schedule includes a meeting with the inhabitants – old people who refused to leave native land and move to another place. Excursions can be taken to the surrounding countryside. Proceed to Rozsokha village where you will have a look at the techniques used during the liquidation of the disaster consequences. You will have the option of interviewing the experts of the local enterprises dealing with removal, transportation, recycling and disposal of radioactive waste products. Interested visitors will be offered a discussion on monitoring of the environment radioactive condition, maintaining of radiation security, taking special forest workings and fire-prevention measures, performing scientific researches.
Lunch at canteen OR packed lunch boxes. Transfer back to Kiev.
Dinner at a local restaurant and transfer to the hotel.
DAY 3
Breakfast at the hotel. City tour including Old Town, Saint Vladimir Cathedral, St. Andrew's Street and Saint Andrew's Church, St.Sophia & Michael’s Cathedrals. Proceed to Chernobyl Museum. This museum is a concentration of pain and regret about the national tragedy of Ukrainian Nation. Museum consists of 3 halls with exhibits and always vivid traces of that horrible event. One hall is dedicated to the tragedy itself and emergency measures against it. The second tells us about consequence of that terrible catastrophe. The whole atmosphere of the museum with movie fragments, photos from the place of the tragedy and musical accompaniment are created to convey the core problem to all people in the world – we shall do everything not to repeat this horror once again. It is very touching especially photos of the children, the innocent victims that suffered the tragedy.
