Day 1 (Saturday). Tula.

Departure from Moscow to Tula.

The town of Tula is situated 185 km from the Russian capital and is known as the gingerbread town – the town of "prianik”, samovars and arms. Tula gingerbread was originally produced here, it is the most famous kind of Russian gingerbread. We will see all the main landmarks of the town: our first visit will be to the museum "Tul´skiy prianik”. We are going to have some tea with gingerbread, then we will drop by to a Tula gingerbread shop. As a rule, a prianik is flat and rectangular. Modern versions can have a jam or condensed milk filling, the traditional

ones were made with honey. Tula gingerbread has been famous since the 17th century.

Tula gingerbread was first mentioned in census book of the town in 1685.


We will take a tour to the Arms museum. In the beginning of the 18th century the first Russian arms factory was opened in Tula. The collection of the museum tells the history of arms evolution from the end of the 16th century to nowadays. The exhibition has the most popular types of Russian arms, as well as arms of Western Europe and the East. The unique collection consists of old and contemporary hunting and sporting arms.

After lunch we will go on a tour around the Kremlin of Tula – the historical fortress of the town that dates as far back as the 14th century.

Afterwards we will go to Yasnaya Poliana – an estate that belonged to the family of Tolstoy. On August, 28 1828 one of the most world famous writers, Leo Tolstoy, was born here. He lived here, created his works, it was here that he wrote "War and peace”, "Anna Karenina” etc. His tomb is also here in Yasnaya Poliana.

Day 2 (Sunday). Yasnaya Poliana.

Breakfast in the café «Preshpekt».

We will go on a tour of the memorial estate of Tolstoy - Yasnaya Poliana (the house, park, and walk to the tomb of the writer). Then we will visit the Kochakovsky necropolis – the shrine of the Tolstoy family.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

We will go to the train station Kozlova Zaseka. The station was reconstructed according to its historical look. We will see the exhibition "Tolstoy and the railway”.
