The city of Pechora is a historic memorial of Russia. Here one can still see the memorials of the past remaining from our ancestors and preserving the history. .
The main attraction of the city is the Holy-Pechory Assumption Orthodox Monastery. It is located in 340km to the South-West of St. Petersburg and in 50km to the West of Pskov. The Monastery is over 525 years old. It is monument of Russian culture and military history. It is assumed that the town was given its name after the monastery initially located in the caves. The attractions of the town of Pechora also include small houses made of wood, stone, and brick. These not just houses, but eyewitnesses of different epochs that the town went through. The houses survived through times as some of them were built in the XVI century, and some – in the XIX-XX centuries.
