Izborsk

Izborsk is one of the oldest towns in Russia. Izborsk and the most picturesque Izborsko-Malskaya valley are of great historic and cultural value. The town of Izborsk, its ancient settlement, and the suburbs are literally staffed with archaeological, historical, and architectural monuments. All in all there are over 200 monuments here. The fortress of Izborsk is a gem of old Pskov architecture. Archeological significant sites: Truvor settlement, territory of town trading quarters, funeral memorials including the burial hill at the Slovenskoye field, Pottery, stone crosses are of great interest for tourists. Strong springs are the natural attraction of Izborsk. Because of the springs Izborsk in the XVII century was called "the town of springs". The places of interest except for the ones stated above include: Churches of Nicolas, Segey Radonezhsky, and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, Pokrov Chapel, the complex of merchants' houses of the XIX and XX centuries, peasants’ farmsteads, etc.
