Kaunas is located at the distance of 102km from Vilnius. It is the second largest industrial, scientific, and cultural centre of Lithuania. Kaunas is also a university city. One of the most famous cultural attractions of Kaunas is its City Hall known as the White Swan, which is a magnificent white building with a 53 meter high tower in the Gothic style built in the XVI century. The Art Gallery which is one of the largest in Lithuania, exhibits over 800 items including paintings by Rafael, Rembrandt, and others. Among the museums of Kaunas the most notable are the Museum of Ceramics, the Literature Museum, the Museum of Zoology, but the most popular is definitely the State Arts Museum named after M.K. Ciurlionis, and famous Lithuanian artist and composer. Apart from the works of M.K. Ciurlionis himself the collection of the museum includes Lithuanian, Russian, and Western European paintings of XVI-XX centuries.
